Stand Guard

Watching inside

Stand guard at the door of your mind. That’s another way to say ‘take every thought captive’ which is one of my absolute favorite phrases in scripture. I’m convinced that you couldn’t possibly learn a more important skill - and it’s a skill. It’s an ability that you CAN develop and it will change your life more than anything else over which you have control. There are plenty of things that are out of your control that can impact your life but you can’t do anything about those (by definition).

This is also an ‘every second of every day’ business. When you stand guard over something, it’s not just 2 mins of every hour and then you leave the door unguarded for the other 58 mins of each hour. Stand guard every minute of every hour. Take EVERY thought captive. So if you think you’re already winning at this… there’s always always another level of success.

It’s a 4 step process you can repeat thousands of times a day

  1. First, actually be aware of what you are currently thinking about

  2. Ask yourself ‘is this helpful & positive - or is it negative in any way?

  3. Keep thinking this if positive. REFUSE to keep thinking it otherwise.

  4. Repeat every minute of every hour

Bonus… Don’t allow anything in the front door of your mind to begin with. Don’t watch the news. Don’t watch terrible things happen on TV (even fictional things). Choose something much more beautiful instead. You get to choose.
