Defining Integrity
The Banana Filter
Sometimes the best way to define something is to compare that thing to something else - especially things that are tough to define, like Integrity. We all want to have it. We all suppose that we do already have it. But what’s the test for that?
The Banana Filter is the best analogy I’ve ever heard on this. It’s so simple. You know exactly what is on the inside of a banana just by looking at the outside. What you see is literally what you get. You don’t have to wonder
Is this really a banana?
There is basically no doubt about your thoughts and feelings about it. It just ‘is’.
So is that true of you? Are you exactly the same inside and out? Is my experience of you on the outside truly representing what’s inside?
Like so many things, there is no finish line with personal integrity. There’s always more. There is always a new level of clarity and success. We won’t be done growing (or we shouldn’t be) until we meet Jesus in Heaven.
Until then, maybe ask yourself:
How can I be more completely honest and truthful?
Could I be more transparent and open?
Where could I be more completely consistent and predictable?
