Asking Directions

Pause First

I used to get lost all the time on a trip in the car. It was easy to lose your way (before gps I mean). We all did that. We had to stop moving and reset. There was no point in traveling further in the wrong direction.

The only solution was to stop first and reconsider the directions. It’s still the right choice but stopping is no longer something we instinctively do.

I spent so much of my life afraid (for no apparent reason)

I spent so much of my life afraid to stop.

I spent so much of my life afraid to stop and think.

Here’s a framework for a stop on a Sunday:

Stop, Pray, Contemplate, Innovate

Stop to really get clear on direction.

Ask God what to do next (and really listen for the answer)

Spend actual time thinking (extended stopping is a prerequisite)

Expect an answer. Expect to find innovation from that process.

You can trust Him in the real-life effort to recalculate the route.
